After review of the June 12, 1997 bids, the Board of Directors of the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire chose North Branch Construction for the project, despite the fact that North Branch was not the low bidder. Although the project was originally over budget, through diligent value engineering and elimination of some non-essential items, the building committee and North Branch were able to bring the project to a reality.
North Branch broke ground in July 1997. In excess of 2,000 cubic yards of ledge had to be blasted and removed before foundations could be placed.
The 14,000 square foot, $1.2 million facility is a wood and steel framed, slab on grade structure featuring masonry partitions and masonry holding areas designed for long term durability and sound attenuation. The facility also includes a multi-purpose room and retail area designed for multi-media presentations and animal obedience training, cat adoption areas, full-service clinic (including surgical unit), isolation areas, maternity area, animal bathing and food preparation rooms as well as numerous staff and director offices.
The Animal Rescue League’s long awaited purpose-built facility more than tripled the capacity of animals compared to their old facility. The new facility also includes three drop off areas for animals to be left when the facility is not open. For security and protection of the animals, North Branch designed the doors to open only once and lock after the animals are placed inside.
Construction was completed in January 1998 as scheduled. Dennis Mires, PA, the Architects, of Manchester, NH provided the architectural design for the project
