Dartmouth College McCulloch Hall

North Branch Construction was chosen from a group of five firms as Construction Manager for the new East Wheelock St. Dormitory Cluster at Dartmouth College. Construction on the new, 80 bed, $6.1 million facility, designed by Atkin, Olshin, Lawson-Bell Architects of Philadelphia, PA, began with the demolition of an existing garage. In addition, underground electric and a chiller servicing the surrounding buildings (running through the new foundation site) had to be relocated. With the project continuing under the watchful eyes of residents (not overwhelmingly supportive of the project) in six occupied buildings surrounding the tight site, special considerations had to be addressed regarding noise, parking, and dust protection. North Branch Construction conducted regular neighborhood meetings with the residents of the occupied buildings, which housed Dartmouth students and faculty, as well as private citizens, to address any concerns they may have with the on-going construction.

Construction was completed two weeks ahead of schedule and approximately $110,000 under the GMP. The new dormitory features student bedrooms arranged in suites that house both male and female students on its four floors and is nestled between other existing dormitories. The new facility is also linked to the existing Wheelock Cluster with both open and enclosed walkways. The dormitory was named McCulloch Hall in honor of Trustee Emeritus Norman (Sandy) E. McCulloch, Jr. in appreciation of his years of dedicated service to Dartmouth College. North Branch Construction was honored to receive an ABC Excellence in Construction Award for this project.
