Dartmouth College Alumni Gymnasium

  • Pool Dehumidification and Major Building Upgrades
  • $12.8 million project
  • 80,000 square feet
  • Award-Winning Project

North Branch was chosen construction manager for the major upgrade of the Dartmouth College Alumni Gymnasium in July 2004. Providing Pre-Construction Services, North Branch worked with the owner and Lavallee/Brensinger, PA Architects to establish the scope of work and subcontractor bidding. North Branch provided the owner with the Guaranteed Maximum Price and construction began in April 2005. The project included installation of a pool dehumidification system, relocation of offices, construction of a new fitness center and multi-purpose room, improvements to the mechanical and electrical systems, installation of a fire sprinkler system throughout the 140,000 square foot facility, new roof, and installation of an elevator. The project also included removal of a dropped, acoustical ceiling (installed in the 70's) to expose the open truss cathedral ceilings in the new fitness center and Karl Michael pool areas, restoring the original early 1900's decor of the facility. This removal required a massive scaffolding system be erected over the pool. The removal of the old acoustical ceiling allowed significantly more natural daylight into the area. Portions of the facility remained open throughout construction. With the fitness center moved to another location within the building and the Spaulding Pool, alumni continued to have access to the building. In October 2007, North Branch received Merit Award at the ABC Excellence in Construction ceremony for this project.
