  • First “assigned veterans” housing facility in the state of New Hampshire
  • $2.1 million
  • 20,000 square feet
  • 20 units

New three-story, 20,000 square foot, slab on grade, wood frame with brick veneer facility for veterans’ affordable housing. This was the first “assigned veterans” housing facility in the state of New Hampshire. George Hickey of Sanbornton, NH was the architect for the project. The facility is owned by Harbor Homes, Inc. of Nashua, NH. Harbor Homes, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency, which provides residential and support services focused on the needs of persons living with mental illness and disabilities. This project, located at 46 Spring Street in Nashua, provides 20 one and two bedroom units of transitional housing for honorably discharged American veterans and their families as part of Harbor Homes Veterans F.I.R.S.T Program. The veterans participating are provided energy efficient, safe and comfortable housing for up to two years, enabling them to regain the skills necessary to become self-sufficient and integrate back into the community.

The facility was named Buckingham Place, in honor and memory of Byron “Bucky” Buckingham, a World War II veteran and long time resident of Nashua who devoted a half century of his life to helping fellow veterans.
