Holloway Commons is the flagship dining hall for the Durham Campus. The dining hall will close for the brief summer construction season and will be reopened in time for the beginning of the fall semester. The balance of the project will continue while the dining hall is open and occupied. Phase I of the project is the fast-track summer construction to reconfigure the flow of students navigating the facility which includes a new entry, circulation area, seating areas, select food service platforms, complete new dishwashing room and associated supporting activities. Construction consists of 2 new additions as well as extensive renovations to existing spaces on multiple floors. Site work will include ledge removal and deep foundations against the existing building, extensive demolition, concrete foundations and retaining walls, slab on grade and deck, brick masonry new and reworked, structural steel, miscellaneous metals, lead covered copper siding, architectural and custom millwork, doors frames and hardware, extensive glass, glazing and aluminum framing systems, membrane and slate roofing, light gauge metal framing, gypsum wall board and finishes, painting, ceramic tile, carpeting and resilient flooring, ACT ceilings, several new elevators, HVAC and plumbing, electrical and a light fixture package.
North Branch is providing Pre-Construction Services this Spring with construction scheduled to begin in May 2015.
